GO WHERE? DO WHAT?

BMW will not continue to develop high Rev engine

Seems like the N54 has proven to BMW that it is a viable platform for developing high hp and torque without going to higher number of cylinders and higher revolutions. Turbocharging also decreases the emission and supply a higher MPG. Their next turbocharge engine will be for the new X6 4.4 liter 90 degree V8. According to Autoweek, this new 4.4 liter will generate the power of the M5 5.0 liter V10 with 500+ hp and 500+ lb-ft.

BMW is famous with it's high rev engine. I hope they can maintain the performance if they decided to discontinue high rev engine.

Turbo engines are usually more powerful than high rev engines. Both philosophy is to generate horsepower. One is by using high rev and the other by high compression ratio. High rev enemy is mechanical problem. Just think about F1 engines running at 19K rpm. They only last 2 races. Turbo engines enemy is heat. The turbo generates tremendous heat and needs to be cooled down. It will need an extra oil cooling radiator in the car. I owned a WRX before. All I can say...turbo is the way to go for generating high HP with small engines. Enuff said...I think BMW is heading the right direction.
